Microneedling in Stockholm

Microneedling is a skin treatment in which fine needles create microscopic channels in the skin, triggering the skin's own healing process and the production of collagen and elastin. The treatment is used to reduce acne scars and pores, soften fine lines and give the skin a smoother texture and a more even tone.

Not all microneedling pens are the same

There are big differences between microneedling systems – in terms of needles, precision, motor power, needle depth and hygiene.

Professional pens, for example systems in the same category as SkinPen, Dermapen and IOXO Pen, are designed so that the needles work quickly, steadily and as vertically as possible in the skin. This makes it possible to create controlled micro-channels at an even, adjustable depth.

Simpler and cheaper microneedling pens, on the other hand, can vary more in motor power, needle movement and precision. If the needles don't work steadily, they are more likely to drag or tear the skin instead of creating clean, controlled micro-channels.

What sets the needles apart?

What sets the needles apart?

Professional needle cartridges

  • Very fine, precise needles
  • Even placement and movement
  • Controlled, adjustable needle depth
  • Sterile single-use cartridges
  • Designed to penetrate the skin quickly and in a controlled way
Basic/low-quality needle cartridges
  • May have coarser or less consistently sharpened needles
  • Greater variation between needles and cartridges
  • Less precise needle depth
  • The needles can move less steadily and cause more drag on the skin
  • Sterility and quality control can be harder to verify if the product lacks clear documentation

At Studio Michélle we work with the IOXO microneedling pen, a Swedish-developed microneedling pen, and sterile, sharp single-use needle cartridges. We chose our system so that we can work with high precision and tailor the treatment to each skin and treatment area.

For us, good microneedling isn't just about how many needles a pen has – it's about how precisely the needles work in the skin.

Who is microneedling for?

Microneedling is for you if you want to improve your skin's texture in depth and can plan for a couple of days of visible redness after the treatment. It is especially suitable if you recognise yourself in any of the following.

  • You have scars or pitting from acne

  • Your pores have become larger or more visible

  • You notice fine lines and that your skin has lost its elasticity

  • Your skin feels uneven or rough

  • You have pigmentation spots or an uneven skin tone

  • You want results similar to laser, but with a shorter recovery time

The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have active acne, eczema or an infection in the area, an active cold sore, a tendency to form keloid scars, or if you take blood-thinning medication. We go through this with you at the consultation.

How a microneedling treatment works

Image

Step 1. Consultation and skin analysis

We go through your skin, what you want to improve and your current skincare routine. We also check that there are no contraindications. Then we decide on the needle depth and which areas to treat.

Image

Step 2. Cleansing and preparation

The skin is thoroughly cleansed of make-up, sunscreen and sebum to reduce the risk of irritation and create a clean, even base for the treatment. Numbing cream is not normally recommended, as it can affect the skin's natural redness and response during the treatment. For the therapist, the skin's reaction is an important visual guide for working evenly, keeping track of which areas have already been treated and adjusting the intensity to the skin. As an extra touch, we use a facial spa with a pleasant airflow directed at the skin before and during the treatment. It makes the experience more comfortable and helps the skin feel soothed and ready for the microneedling.

Step 3. Choice of serum

Before the treatment we choose a serum based on your skin's needs and the result you want to achieve. The serum is used as part of the treatment and tailored individually to your skin type and treatment goals. You can choose between:

  • PDRN serum – for skin renewal, recovery and improved skin quality
  • Anti-age serum – focused on elasticity, fine lines and a firmer look
  • Hydration serum – for intense hydration and softer, more hydrated skin
  • Vitamin serum – for extra radiance, nourishment and a more even skin tone
Your therapist will help you choose the serum that best suits your skin.

Step 4. Treatment with IOXO

We move the IOXO pen over the skin in even strokes and adjust the needle depth to each area. During the treatment a serum is applied, which is absorbed through the newly created micro-channels. You will feel a light vibration and a prickling sensation, most noticeable over bony areas such as the forehead, jaw and nose, and around the eyelids.

Step 5. Soothing mask and recovery

After the microneedling we apply a soothing mask to the treated area to hydrate, cool and comfort the skin after the treatment. On top, we place a lavender-filled weighted mask that gives a soft, relaxing pressure and helps you unwind while your skin recovers. The masks are left on for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, you enjoy a relaxing head massage while you rest to calming music, a pleasant airflow from our facial spa and a peaceful setting where both you and your skin get a moment to recover.

Step 6. Cooling massage and finishing facial massage

After the soothing mask we continue with a facial massage using cooling glass globes. They help calm the skin, reduce the feeling of heat and redness and give a pleasant cooling effect after the microneedling. We also apply a nourishing lip balm, as the lips can sometimes feel drier after the treatment. It helps hydrate and protect the lips so they don't feel tight or risk cracking. The treatment then ends with an uplifting face and neck massage, with soft, relaxing movements that give the treatment a luxurious finish and help you leave the treatment room feeling calm and well.

Aftercare after microneedling

The skin heals quickly, but the first few days make a big difference to the result. Follow this routine after your treatment.

The first 24 hours

  1. Don't wear make-up
  2. Wash your face with lukewarm water only
  3. Avoid touching your skin and switch to a clean pillowcase

Microneedling combined with BioRePeel

Microneedling and BioRePeel work in different ways and complement each other very well.

Mechanical treatment

Microneedling

Microneedling stimulates the skin mechanically through microscopic channels and activates the skin's natural repair process.

Chemical peel

BioRePeel

BioRePeel is a chemical peel that helps improve the skin's radiance, texture and smoothness.

The combination

Microneedling + BioRePeel

The combination is for you if you want to work more intensively on several skin concerns at once and get a more complete skin rejuvenation treatment.

Benefits of combining microneedling and BioRePeel

Texture and firmness

  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production
  • Improves skin texture and makes the skin smoother
  • Contributes to firmer, more elastic skin
  • Can reduce the visibility of fine lines

Scars and pores

  • Can improve the appearance of acne scars and other irregularities
  • Can reduce the visibility of enlarged pores

Radiance and skin tone

  • Gives the skin more radiance and a fresher tone
  • Helps even out pigmentation and uneven skin tone
  • Removes dead skin cells for a softer skin surface

The combination is especially popular with those who want to work on both the surface and the structure of the skin while gaining more radiance, smoothness and firmness.

Microneedling results before and after

The skin often feels fresher and smoother after the very first treatment. The clearest results come gradually over the course and in the weeks that follow, as new collagen forms. The images below show results from our own clients treated at Studio Michélle.

Frequently asked questions

Does microneedling hurt?

You will feel it, but most people find it manageable. The sensation is described as a light vibration and prickling, mostly over the forehead and jaw. The needle depth is adjusted to each area.

How many treatments do I need, and how long do the results last?

We recommend a course of 4 treatments 4-5 weeks apart. The results usually last a year or longer, as the skin continues to produce collagen after the course. Many clients maintain their results with 1-2 treatments a year.

How long is the recovery after microneedling?

The skin becomes red and may feel tight or slightly swollen for one to three days. You can go back to work the next day, but should avoid make-up for the first 24 hours. See our aftercare guide above for what to keep in mind.

When will I see results?

The skin often looks smoother and more radiant a week after the first treatment. Improvements in scars, pores and lines are clearest after two to three treatments and continue for several months after the course.

Can microneedling treat acne scars?

Yes. Microneedling is one of the most widely used treatments for pitted acne scars. Deeper scars usually need more treatments, and we assess what is realistic at the consultation.

What is the difference between in-clinic microneedling and an at-home dermaroller?

A dermaroller for home use usually has very short needles and therefore mainly works on the surface of the skin. Because the roller is drawn across the skin at different angles, it can also cause unnecessary irritation and small injuries if used incorrectly.

With professional in-clinic microneedling, we instead work with sterile single-use needles and a precisely controlled needle depth tailored to your skin, your treatment area and your goals. The needles go straight down into the skin with consistent precision, which makes the treatment both safer and considerably more effective.

This means we can work in a more targeted way on concerns such as fine lines, uneven skin texture, acne scars, pores and skin firmness, while the treatment is carried out under controlled, hygienic conditions.

If you want visible, professionally controlled results, a clinic treatment is a completely different step from using a dermaroller at home.

What is the difference between microneedling and laser?

Both stimulate collagen, but laser uses heat, while microneedling works mechanically without heat. This is why the recovery is often shorter, and why microneedling also suits darker skin tones, where laser carries a risk of pigmentation changes.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Side effects are usually mild and temporary. The most common are redness, swelling and light peeling for a few days. Less common are infection or pigmentation changes, which are minimised with sterile needles and proper aftercare.
